The tradition continues.....
Greek dancing has been part of Rallis Vatalidis's life for as long as he can remember. Although he is Australian born and bred he has always,and will always continue to feel proud of his Greek culture and heritage. With this in mind he believes that dancing strengthens these ties.
Although he is far away from his ancestral home, Rallis believes that it is vital for all Greek Australians to retain their cultural heritage and that Greek dancing is a way of contributing to this. As quoted by Rallis;"Dancing keeps the fire burning within the hearts of our children".
Therefore,in 1996 the Rallis School of Greek Dance ("RSGD") was established to promote a cultural awareness with in the wider Greek community through performances of Traditiuonal,Modern,and Greek/Cypriot dances.
RSGD aims not only to teach dances, but for these dances to be executed with fire and passion and that their tradition is not lost to future generations.
Over the years RSGD has acheived many dancing successes with performances at:
- "Mornings with Kerri-Anne" on the Nine Network;
- The Australian Cultural Festival;
- Greek Independence Day celebrations at Sydney Opera House to which RSGD is invited annually;
- Our Saturday" with Harry Michaels on GATV;
Rallis has also been invited by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Greeks Abroad several times to attend Traditional Dance seminars in Greece. The knowledge and experience Rallis gained from these seminars has helped to enrich his school.
For the past thirteen(13) years RSGD has held an annual fundraising dance,where funds raised go towards the Children's Hospital Oncology Unit. This midyear event gives RSGD an opprtunity to give something back to the community, and with the school's contribution to the Unit it helps to build a brighter and more optimistic future for all sick children in need of the Unit.
Year after year the RSGD continues to grow with classes now being held in Ashbury, Bexley North, Blacktown, Crows Nest, Kingsgrove, Lugarno, and Wollongong. The school has an advanced level of dance steps and performances,which all students are taught from tiny tots to adults( ages 4 and up).
Rallis's commitment was evident at the 12th year dance spectacular," Our Cultur,Our Passion, GREECE!" at Parade Theatre,NIDA.
"Our Culture, Our Passion, GREECE!" was a two and a half hour spectacular of Greek dances held on a world class performing stage with lots of energy,drama,and vibrant colours featuring a sensational presentation of Traditional(mainland /Island),Contemporary,and Tavern dances.
Rallis understands that you have a choice between several different dance schools, but they are not all the same. What makes RSGD different to others is that Rallis's primary objective is to teach your children the VERY BEST
Every year RSGD aims to continue to develop the potential of all its students as well as set high standard of excellence.
At RSGD we welcome you and your family so come along and experience the energy and passion for yourself.
